The Garden of the Gulf Museum is open for the 2020 season and are operating Tuesday to Saturday from 9:00 am-5:00 pm. We are following provincial health protocols and have hand sanitizer available at entrance points and throughout our 3 floors of exhibits and artifacts. The Garden of the Gulf Museum is also following social distancing protocols and because of close proximity of tours we do have face masks available.for visitors to wear when visiting our museum.
Our new exhibit for this summer will be a Doctors of Montague exhibit feature tools and practices of the early doctors from the old Town of Montague. We also have included in the exhibit a write up about the Spanish flu pandemic back in 1918. As always we want to thank everyone who visits the Garden of the Gulf Museum and their continued support of PEI's First Community Museum. We are hard at work this season setting up new exhibits, events and collecting books for our wee gift shop.
There will be two new Mi'Kmaq exhibits this year, a natural history exhibit, an fun exhibit on hats (yes, you can try a few on.) and an exhibit featuring a piece of the Berlin Wall which we have on loan. These along with the many other exhibits on all three floors should make for an exciting year. In terms of special events we are working on partnering up with the Mi'Kmaq Confederacy of Prince Edward Island, the Montague Library, Past time Hooked Rugs, local authors for book signings and hoping to offer a few learning workshops. Keep posted to website and facebook for updates. Very excited to add a number of Island books to our wee gift shop this year, as we believe we are the only place available in this area for some of these fantastic titles. Really looking forward to this tourist season along with getting some more locals in to see the new exhibits. The Garden of the Gulf Museum has two new additions this year in terms of signage. The Board felt it was time to add a little more color to this amazing Canadian Heritage Building and couldn't be more pleased with the result. Thank you to Starla and Ryan of Shiny Paint for seeing our vision and making it happen. It's been a year since last I wrote a blog for the Museum, which is odd to see the last one I wrote is exactly where I'm at right now..... in planning mode. Special Event, Education Programming, Community Involvement and a new Museum Gift Shop. The Board of Directors and the Town of Montague are really looking to breath new life into the Museum this year.
It is our goal to gather more community involvement and support to keep our wonderful heritage site growing. To help preserve the history for many generations to come. For how can we know where we're going if we forget where we came from. |
